Key Duties:
- Involve system and environmental monitoring, hardware/software maintenance, executing backups and production jobs, and escalating problems to senior engineers or managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and Maintenance:
o Oversee the health and performance of servers, networks, and the overall data center environment (e.g., power, cooling).
o Perform routine maintenance and respond to system malfunctions.
- Job and Schedule Management:
o Run scheduled batch & backup jobs, submit production jobs, and manage system operations according to established procedures and schedules.
- Incident and Problem Management:
o Identify, log, and report issues.
o Respond to common faults and escalate complex problems to the appropriate teams for resolution.
- Hardware Operations:
o Perform tasks such as racking and stacking new equipment and managing media (like tapes).
- Documentation and Reporting:
o Create and maintain logs, compile duty reports, and update operational documentation.
- Support:
o Provide first-level troubleshooting and support, sometimes including after-hours help desk support.
